PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a self waveguide optical circuit in which miniaturization, lightening, high integration and speeding-up are realized and which shows excellent transmission efficiency. SOLUTION: In the self waveguide optical circuit in which an optical circuit is composed by spatially propagating light or electromagnetic waves in a self waveguide manner, a parallel light beam bundle having high parallelism in the self waveguide manner is obtained by using photonic crystals 2, 3 and 4 having a dielectric constant cyclic structure or semi-cyclic structure of a cycle which is substantially equivalent to the wavelength of propagation light propagating the optical path and by forming the optical path by setting a crystal orientation in such a direction that the dispersion surface of the photonic crystals become flat. The photonic crystals 2, 3 and 4 are partially formed within an optical circuit substrate 5, and a laser 1, a light receiving element 6 and an optical fiber 7 are connected to the end surface of the optical circuit substrate 5. Three photonic crystals thereof are arranged by selecting the crystal orientation so as to obtain the parallel light beam bundle, branching and bending respectively. |
