PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a method for cooling a heat developable sheet in a heat development apparatus, which can suppress the image quality variation due to the fluctuation of developing time and prevent the physical deformation of the heat developable sheet. SOLUTION: The method for cooling the heat developable sheet consists of: a first cooling step for suppressing the progress of development by clamping and carrying the heat developable sheet A by using a couple of rotary bodies 4 which has a cooling temperature lower than development temperature; a second cooling step for carrying out natural cooling by carrying the heat developable sheet A for only a prescribed distance in a non-contact state in air of temperature lower than the cooling temperature of the couple of the rotary bodies 4 and making the sheet curve with the weight of the sheet itself; and a third cooling step for cooling the curved heat developable sheet A to a temperature equal to or below the softening point of the sheet support while carrying the sheet in contact with a guide member 5A to correct the curved shape.
