Waste water treatment plant (I), comprising (A) intake, primary treatment (4) and filtration (5) systems; and (B) flow limiters (7, 8). Waste water treatment plant, comprising (A) intake, primary treatment (4) and filtration (5) systems; and (B) flow limiters (7, 8) upstream and downstream of the primary treatment systems to control the volume of water entering the primary treatment and filtration systems in the event of increased flows e.g. as a result of rains. The intake side of the plant can also have a pre-limiter (6) to control the flow entering the upstream limiter (7). The pre-limiter consists of an inspection chamber with a gravity flow inlet for the used water, an outlet for part of the effluent and a duct between the two, with a discharge pipe for water not fed to the upstream limiter. The upstream limiter has an effluent inlet and outlet of more or less the same diameter, a grille to keep back solids and prevent the outlet from becoming blocked, and a discharger for any effluent overflow.
