The interrupter for movement of a building prop has an input shaft (8) connected to a drive for producing a pushing movement and an output shaft connected to the input at least during pushing movement. A sensor for a laser alignment beam detects the predefined required position and is connected to a stop to prevent further movement of the prop. An Independent claim is included for a method for operating the prop.
