The emergency brake system for an elevator, to stop a dangerous descent of the elevator cage and lock it against the elevator rail (1), has at least one brake wedge (13) to be pressed against the rail by a spring pressure body (14) and apply a braking force. The stroke movement of the brake wedge, during a braking action, is defined by a limit unit (18), to apply a braking force according to the deceleration of the elevator cage. The limit unit is part of a hydraulic system, operated according to the setting of a control valve (21) which reacts to the elevator cage movement sensor (23). |
