The invention relates to a method for producing a coating on at least one periphery (20) of a cavity (16) of a work piece (12). The method is characterized in that the material to be converted to a coating is configured as a strip-shaped material (18) that is placed at least on sections of the periphery (20) to be coated. The strip-shaped material (18) is then interlinked with the periphery (20) by heat treatment. The invention further relates to a material, especially for use in said method, which is characterized in that the material (18) is configured as a strip and comprises an alloy from at least two different elements/materials, preferably metals, and optionally a binder.
