The continuous recovery of (meth)acrylic acid (I) from a reaction gas (II), obtained by catalytic gas phase oxidation, includes quenching (II) by vapor cooling with a high-boiling solvent (III), separating (I) by absorption in (III), and separating the (I)-containing (III) by rectification into a first partial stream (PS1) containing mainly (I) and a second partial stream (PS2) containing mainly (III).
