<p>An apparatus is provided in which arms 2 can be moved in a horizontal direction due to a series of pivotally connected members 21, 22, 23, and in a vertical direction due to said second member 22 being pivotally connected to said third member 23 to permit this. Said second member 22 has an adjustable rest position from which vertical movements are resisted by a loading device 33 regardless of whether they are upwards or downwards movements. The resistance means comprises hydraulic piston and cylinder arrangements 92, 94 as a transmission means and a weight 33. The hydraulic transmission system may include an series of valves, arranged so that either an upward or a downward movement may culminate in an upwards movement of said loading device 33. In some systems (see figure 9) more than one exercise unit, each having its own hydraulic transmission system (see figure 9, 92, 94) may share a common loading system (see figure 9, 33). A grip (see figure 16, 21) allows several degrees of freedom of movement as it is mounted to pivot about two perpendicular axes.</p> |
