PURPOSE: A system and a method for warning of fuel shortage of a vehicle is provided to avoid a trouble due to fuel shortage by accurately sensing the fuel exhaustion time and early warning a driver of the fuel shortage. CONSTITUTION: A system for warning of fuel shortage of a vehicle comprises an engine(1), a fuel tank(2), an injector(3), a fuel pump(4), a fuel shortage sensor(5), a fuel alarm lamp(6), a fuel supply line(7), a fuel return line(8), an igniter(9), an oxygen sensor(10), a pressure sensor(110) for an injector, a pressure sensor(120) for a fuel return line, an orifice(130), a pressure sensor(140) for an orifice, a control unit(150), and an alarm issuing unit(160). The control unit outputs a control signal by comprehensively considering the results of the pressure sensors and the operating states of the alarm lamp and the igniter. Depending on the control signal applied from the control unit, the alarm issuing unit lights on the alarm lamp and outputs an alarm sound via a buzzer.
