Method and apparatus for arc welding with consumable electrode

A device for controlling the supply circuit for arc welding incorporates: (a) a system (26, 28, 32) for detecting a contraction of the vein of molten metal at the end of the short circuit regime; (b) a transistor (24); and (c) a system (30 to 48) for controlling the transistor in order to commutate the latter to a linear form when or following the detection of a contraction of the vein of molten metal, in order to reduce the current between the electrode (6) and the work piece (8). Independent claims are also included for a number of methods of arc welding using this control device.
