摘要 PURPOSE: An apparatus for detecting the number of input channel of an optical amplifier and a method therefor are provided to detect the number of input channel of the optical amplifier, control the power of a pump laser through the pump current adjustment of the optical amplifier, detect a WDM(Wavelength Division Multiplexing) channel classified error, and detect a system error. CONSTITUTION: An optical amplifier(11) amplifies an inputted optical signal. A tap coupler(12) divides the output of the optical amplifier(11). An optical detecting unit(13) detects an optical signal from the output of the tap coupler(12) and indicates the output to an optical power as a current value. A current/voltage converting unit(14) converts the current value outputted from the optical detecting unit(13) into a voltage. A reference voltage generating unit(15) generates a reference voltage. A voltage comparing unit(16) the output voltage of the current/voltage converting unit(14) with the reference voltage of the reference voltage generating unit(15). A pump laser driving unit(19) adjusts a current of a pump laser and adjusts an output optical power of a pump laser using the result of the voltage comparing unit(16).
