The loft joist is a steel joist 1 shaped to fit over an existing ceiling joist 2 and fixed to the ceiling joist by means of nails or screws into the side of the existing joist 3. This enables the upgraded floor construction to support domestic floor loading. The construction is completed by the provision of standard floor boards 4 nailed or screwed into the existing timber ceiling joist through pre-formed holes or slots in the upper horizontal flange of the loft joist. |
