Audio-compressed music data (e.g., MP3 data) distributed from a music distribution system is transcoded into, e.g., linear PCM data that can maintain compatibility. The "transcoded data" is coupled to "original data" that contains copyright management information and copy control information distributed together with the music data to generate a music distribution compatible DVD coupled file. The generated coupled file is recorded on a disc or the like. Coupled contents management information that manages all data in the coupled file is read out, and a decoder on the reproduction apparatus side selectively reproduces one of the audio-compressed data and linear PCM data. Furthermore, move/copy/deletion of the generated coupled file are controlled on the basis of the distributed copyright management information and copy control information.
