<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a steering device capable of controlling the steering ratio whereby the control can be conducted over as wide a range as practicable even if the controlled variable is limited. SOLUTION: The steering device 10 is structured so that a rack-and-pinion mechanism 25 consisting of a pinion 31 coupled with a steering wheel 21 and a rack shaft 33 coupled with steered wheels 27 is stored in a housing 35, wherein the steered wheels 27 can be turned in steering by moving the housing 35 across the vehicle width relative to the body 57. The rack-and-pinion mechanism 26 is embodied on the variable ratio system in which the gear ratio of the rack 32 to pinion 31 is small when the steering wheel 21 lies in the neutral position to become greater with increasing steering angle.</p> |
