PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of producing bisphenol A which is obtained from phenol and acetone in the presence of an acid and a thiol compound and is low in coloring when thermally melted and further produced at a low cost and has high quality. SOLUTION: The method of producing bisphenol A comprises the steps of reacting phenol with acetone in the presence of a solid acid and a thiol compound at the reaction temperature of 60-100 deg.C and in a molar ratio of the thiol compound of 0.01-0.1 based on acetone, and subjecting the reaction mixture obtained from several reactions to crystallization in the presence of water, and thus an adduct crystal of phenol and bisphenol A is obtained.
