PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a detergent composition which foams well, has excellent detergency, is not irritative to the skin during and after washing, and gives a feeling of refreshment after used. SOLUTION: This detergent composition characteristically contains a salt of a higher fatty acid having 12 to 22 carbon atoms, an amidopropylbetaine-type surfactant and hydroxypropylmethyl cellulose.
