A data service, comprising data and software application components, for transmission to a selected type of data display platform, such as a particular interactive television set top box, is built. The software application component executes on a data display platform to display elements of the data component in response to commands generated by a user. An application data model (<B>112</B>) is used to build a software application component (<B>114</B>) able to access data conforming to the application data model. Service content data in a first configuration generic to a variety of data display platforms is then converted (<B>118</B>) to a second configuration conforming to the application data model in order to provide the data component. The use of a content data model intermediate to the raw formats of the service content data and the application data model is also disclosed. |
