Disclosed are novel quinazolin-4-one derivatives of the formula I (see formula I) (in which the dashed line represents an optional double bond; A is a benzo or thieno ring; B is phenyl, pyridyl or pyrimidyl; X is N or CH; R1 is hydrogen or a substituent; R2 is a substituent such as halo; and R3 and R4 are hydrogen or a substituent), pharmaceutical compositions containing such compounds to treat neurodegenerative, psychotropic, and drug and alcohol induced central and peripheral nervous system disorders.
