PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrical contact material which secures excellent reliability by reducing the amount of wear caused by arcs, and contributes to the increase of the voltage and capacity of an electric power apparatus, their compactification and the extension of their lives, and to provide its production method. SOLUTION: The oxide of at least one or more kinds selected from the group consisting of calcia, magnesia and ceria and at least one or more kinds of metals for addition selected from the group consisting of titanium, vanadium, chromium, iron, cobalt, nickel, zirconium, niobium, molybdenum, ruthenium, rhodium, palladium, hafnium, tantalum, rhenium, osmium and iridium are added to an alloy of tungsten and copper.
