PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of manufacturing an artificial lightweight aggregate, wherein a granule formed in the manufacturing process has high strength, yield based on a raw material is high, and provide the aggregate for a high- strength artificial lightweight coarse aggregate using an industrial waste as the raw material. SOLUTION: A raw material which contains SiO2-Al2O3-based material with softening point of 500-1200 deg.C, a fiber, preferably an organic opening fiber, with water content of <=5%, (A), and/or a cornstarch, (B), are mixed, granulated and fired to form the artificial lightweight aggregate.
