PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a novel organic transition metal compound having aπcoordination compound as a ligand and useful as a catalyst component of a polymerization catalyst, and a polymerization catalyst therewith as a catalyst component. SOLUTION: This organic transition metal compound is expressed by the general formula: [(Z-A)n-D]mEaMXk-m-a (L)j (wherein, M is a transition metal of the group 3-11; D and E are respectively aπcoordination compound residue; A is a group bridging D and Z; X is a group forming aσbond with M; L is a Lewis base; n and m are respectively 1 or 2; (a) and (j) are respectively 0 or 1; (k) is an oxidation number of M; k-m-a is an integer of 1 or more). The polymerization catalyst is composed of the combination of (A) the organic transition metal compound, (B) a compound producing an ionic compound by reactig with the component (A) of the organic transition metal compound, and on occasions (C) an organic alkyl metal compound.
