The mast (1) is rotatable in order to move the sail focal point (8) in the length and width direction of the boat. A mast construction is designed to move the sail focal point in the length and width direction of the boat as it is rotated. Independent claims are also included for (a) a method of operating this mast, using a hydraulic mechanism, (b) a method for constructing the mast, using a composite material comprising epoxy resin and carbon fibres, in combination with wood and foam material, and (c) a method for mounting the mast in a boat, using self-setting socket bearings (9, 10) made from plastic and metal.
