PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make polarized light accurately trace in a prism array by reducing the refracted amount of inconstant polarized light incident on the prism array. SOLUTION: This polarizing illuminator is equipped with 1st and 2nd lens array bodies 3 and 5 constituted like a plate by arranging plural lenses 30 and 50 on a plane orthogonal to an optical axis and having a light condensing function, the prism array 7 separating the inconstant polarized light from a light source 1 to S wave of vertically polarized light and P wave of horizontally polarized light and emitting the S wave and the P wave, and a λ/2 wavelength plate 82 rotating the plane of polarization of either polarized light of the S wave of that of the P wave emitted by the prism array 7 and converting one polarized light into the other. The array body 3 and the array body 5 are arranged on the incident side of the prism array 7 and on the emitting side of the array 7, respectively, and the plate 82 is provided between the array body 5 and the prism array 7. |
