This invention relates to methods for diagnosing a predisposition to psychosis in a progeny who possesses Cw antigen, comprising, obtaining a biological sample from the mother of the progeny; determining the presence of anti Cw antibody in the biological sample, where the presence of an anti Cw antibody in the biological sample is indicative of a predisposition of the progeny to psychosis. Kits for use in the diagnosis of psychosis are also described.
