Absorbent and non-absorbent substrates are disclosed. The absorbent and non-absorbent substrates disclosed herein contain an effective amount of an alkyl polyglycoside for inhibiting the production of potentially harmful toxins such as TSST-1, alpha toxin and/or enterotoxins A, B, and C from S. aureus . The absorbent substrates containing the alkyl polyglycoside disclosed herein may be tampons or sanitary napkins, and the non-absorbent substrates may be incontinence devices.
