The camera has a mechanical pressure plate (20) behind the film image gate. An interface accepts inputs from the camera, which determine the depth of focus. A processor carries out this calculation. A comparator determines from the result, whether or not the film should be sucked (22) back flat into close contact with the pressure plate.
