The invention concerns a pencil containing substantially cylindrical oxide nuclear fuel pellets, based on enriched uranium oxide. The H/D ratio between the height and the diameter of the pellet ranges between 0.4 and 0.6. The diametral clearance between the pellets and the sheath does not exceed 200 mu m.
