Coupling has a coupling pin at the lower end of the unit with a cylindrical guide section and a lateral support surface (14) across longitudinal axis. Chamber (42), which can be closed, is in the drill pipe with a cylindrical sleeve drilling (6) to take the coupling pin and a second opening which is closed by a pressure-controlled valve (24) with a self-closing action and opened by an overpressure in the chamber. The coupling pin is inserted into the first opening of the chamber, with its guide section, to be sealed by a distorting pressure spring damper (38) against the support surface and prevents withdrawal. The increasing distortion resistance of the damper, together with a piston (34) in a damping chamber (33), sets the penetration depth of the coupling pin into the chamber.
