Elastically pre-tensioned metal clips (4) are slid in from the distal end of the cylindrical exterior of a tube demountably enclosing an endoscope. An hydraulic or penumatic ring shaped piston (6) moves sealably and axially in an annular gap between the exterior of a cylindrical socket (2) and a relatively coaxial cylindrical bushing (5), with the closed piston chamber (7) for pressurising arranged on the proximal side of the piston (6). A demountable hydraulic or pneumatic controller fitted on or integral with the endoscope grip is connected by line to the pneumatic or hydraulic pressure source. The pneumatic or hydraulic line (8) connecting the controller to the piston chamber (7) runs in or parallel to the endoscope shaft (1).
