The main drive for a spinning machine, with an alternating current synchronous motor, has a frequency converter (F0) as the rotary speed setter connected to the main alternating current supply (1). It receives nominal value conditions (S0) from a control (S) with a memory program. According to the control commands, it sets the required nominal rotary speed (n0) at the synchronous motor (M0). The main drive for a spinner has a transmitter system (G0) at the synchronous motor, which sends the actual rotary speed (n'0) of the motor to further frequency converters (F1,F2), which also have nominal value conditions (S1,S2) from the control program to be passed to additional synchronous motors (M1,M2).
