A film strip(14) passes through a pre-stretching system with two or more stretching rolls(8,9) driven at different speeds and is pressed against the latter rolls by linearly moving pressure rolls(4,5) applying a specified loading. The stretching force is thus applied to the film without use of an external brake force acting on the film prior to meeting the first stretching roll.
