PURPOSE: A seat belt and buckle assembly for an automobile is provided to enhance the safety of passengers by enabling a buckle member, a rod member and a rod mounting bracket member to be resiliently moved in a direction of loosening the seat belt to a small degree upon collision of the vehicle. CONSTITUTION: A seat belt and buckle assembly for an automobile comprises a buckle member(11), a rod member(12), and a rod housing member(13). The rod member(12) is installed to be movable through a through-hole(13a) formed in the rod housing member(13) such that a tip end of the rod member(12) is extended into the rod housing member. The tip end of the rod member(12) is fitted into a rod mounting bracket member(14) having a greater cross-sectional area than that of the tip end of the rod member. The rod mounting bracket member(14) is moved upwardly or downward within the rod housing member(13) when the rod member is moved. A resilient member(15) is installed within the rod housing member(13) such that the resilient member is rest at its one end against an upper inner surface of the rod housing member(13) and is rest its other end against an upper surface of the rod mounting bracket member(14).
