Method of controlling an ink jet printer comprising a printhead (14) movable relative to a recording medium in a main scanning direction (Y) and having a plurality of nozzles (24) spaced apart from each other in said main scanning direction and being energized at controlled timings for expelling ink droplets onto the recording medium, the method being characterized by the steps of: measuring at least one parameter, e. g. a temperature, that is correlated to the thermal expansion of the printhead (14), determining, for each of the nozzles (24), a thermally induced positional offset ( DELTA d1 ... DELTA dn) in the main scanning direction on the basis of said parameter, and compensating the offsets of the individual nozzles by controlling the timings at which the nozzles are energized. <IMAGE> |
