The invention concerns a method and system for providing multimedia advertisement to individuals anywhere and anytime, whatever terminal they may use. A portable electronic device such as a smart card, comprises an Advertising Control Processor (21) and an Advertising Data Storage (22). When the portable device is used with a terminal, the Advertising Control Processor (21) obtain a Terminal Identification Code identifying the type of the terminal (TV set, Set Top Box, Electronic Game Console, Wireless telephone Terminal, Personal Computer, PDA, ...). The Advertising Control Processor select Advertisement data from the Data Storage (22) according to the Terminal Identification Code, and send the selected data to the terminal. <IMAGE>
