PURPOSE: A liquid crystal display and a substrate used for the liquid crystal display are provided to optimize the arrangement interval of opening patterns or protrusions to improve picture quality of a liquid crystal display. CONSTITUTION: A substrate used for a liquid crystal display includes an insulating substrate, the first line(114) formed on the substrate in one direction, and the second line(130) intersecting the first line, being insulated from the first line. The substrate further includes a pixel electrode(150) formed in a pixel region defined at the intersection of the first and second lines, and a switching element connected to the first and second lines and the pixel electrode. The interval between the second lines adjacent to each other is repeatedly changed at a specific cycle. The side of the pixel electrode in close proximity to the second line is bent in the same pattern as the second line such that the pixel electrode has a narrow-width part and a wide-width part.
