PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To compactly compose a chair of a small number of parts and lock a back frame at an optional rearward inclination angle (reclination angle) by a great locking force by using a light operation force. SOLUTION: A reclining chair comprises a base 3 supported on a leg and a back frame 7 pivoted to the base 3 and made rearwardly reclinable and forming a backrest, and has a slide guide 20 having a slot 24 into which a seat portion 6 side guide shaft 28 swingably pivoted to the base 3 and supported on the base is inserted and a dentition 25 cut at a prescribed interval in the direction perpendicular to the slot 24 and an engagement member 21 having teeth 29 engaging with the dentition 25 of the slide guide 20, the engagement member 21 can or cannot be freely engaged with the dentition 25 of the slide guide 20 by the rotation of a control member 23, when engaged, and the back frame 7 is locked to the base 3.
