PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coating material for repairing an intermediate coated film effectively masking defects on the substrate, suitable for excellently finishing and excellent in an adhesion to the substrate and chipping resistance, and to provide a method for the repairing. SOLUTION: This primer for repairing the intermediate coated film comprises an acrylic resin, a polyester resin, a melamine resin, a crosslinkable polymer particulate and a pigment, comprises the crosslinkable polymer particulate in an amount of 1-30 pts.wt. as a solid and the melamine resin in an amount of 22-58 pts.wt. as a solid each based on 100 pts.wt. of the solid part of the acrylic resin, the polyester resin and the melamine resin, has <=540 g/L concentration of volatile organic compounds at the time of coating and >=5,000 cPs viscosity at a brushing speed at the time of applying, comprises the pigment in an amount of 10-68 wt.% based on the solid part of the primer coating composition and has <=24 difference (ΔL=L1-L0) of L value (L0) in the intermediate coated film from L value (L1) in the coated film obtained by baking.
