METHOD FOR PRODUCING CARBONIZED PRODUCT

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for quickly and efficiently producing a carbonized product with large specific surface area determined by BET method using a biomass-based material. SOLUTION: This method for producing a medium-grade carbonized product from a biomass-based material is characterized by comprising the steps of (i) irradiating the biomass-based material with microwaves to form an incompletely carbonized product with a carbonized portion inside and an uncarbonized portion left on the surface, (ii) contacting the incompletely carbonized product with an oxidative gas to burn the uncarbonized portion to form a completely carbonized product and (iii) cooling the high-temperature completely carbonized product thus obtained under nonoxidative conditions.
