PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polyester film having a good heat resistance, capable of stably coating the surface of a metal plate even after heat treatment in a can manufacturing process, and also excellent in masking properties, barrier properties and corrosion resistance. SOLUTION: The white biaxially oriented polyester film is characterized in that it has: (a) an A/B two layer structure composed of an A-layer consisting of a polyester having a melting point of 240-260 deg.C and containing titanium dioxide of 5-30 wt.% and a B-layer consisting of a polyester having a melting point of 210-235 deg.C; and (b) a rate of dimension change of 2% or less when the B-layer as a metal plate side is heat bonded to the metal plate and heat treated for two minutes in an atmosphere of 210 deg.C.
