PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for working a butt end capable of efficiently working the butt end. SOLUTION: For the method for working the butt end, one end A of a lumber 2 to be worked is worked with a cutting component 5 by raising the cutting component 5 at a position wherein one end of the lumber 2 to be worked is disposed above the cutting component 5 capable of freely going up and down. After working, the cutting component 5 stands by at a position above the lumber 2 to be worked, besides the lumber 2 to be worked is horizontally moved so that the other end B of the lumber 2 to be worked is disposed below the cutting component 5. After moving, the cutting component 5 is lowered to work the other end B of the lumber 2 to be worked with the cutting component 5.
