PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a honeycomb filter having high filtering efficiency, extremely excellent heat shock resistance, high bonding strength of a seal member and a filter substrate and reduced in pressure loss, and a method for manufacturing the same. SOLUTION: A honeycomb filter has a honeycomb-like filter substrate having a large number of through-holes 4a and 4b and seal members 1 fixed to the end surfaces, in which the through-holes 4a and 4b are opened, of the filter substrate 2 and the seal members 1 seal a large number of the through-holes 3a of the filter substrate 2 on one end surface side of the substrate in a zigzag lattice state and seal the through-holes 4b different from the through-holes 4a, which are sealed on one end surface side, on the other end surface side in a zigzag lattice state. Each of the seal members is constituted of a sheetlike baked body with a thickness of 3 mm or less and the difference in the coefficient of thermal expansion of the seal member with the filter substrate at 40-800 deg.C is set to 0.5×10-6/ deg.C or lower. |
