PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vertically moving device with which the height adjustment of a top plate can be easily performed, at a low price. SOLUTION: This top plate vertically moving device comprises a guiding member 7 and a vertically moving member 8. In this case, the guiding member 7 is attached on the internal surface of a side plate section 6 of a side desk 1. The vertically moving member 8 is vertically movably inserted in a space between the guiding member 7 and the side plate section 6, and vertically moves while being guided. To the guiding member 7, a fastening member 12 is attached while being urged by a spring 13 so that the claw piece 12a of the fastening member 12 may protrude to the vertically moving member 8 side. Then, the vertically moving member 8 is constituted of a vertical member 9, a top plate attaching member 10, and a fastening releasing member 17. In this case, the vertical member 9 is constituted in such a manner that a large number of hole sections 16a are formed in the vertical direction with proper intervals on a plate section 16 being confronted with the guiding member 7 which is vertically movably inserted in the space between the guiding member 7 and the side plate section 6. The top plate attaching member 10 is horizontally supported at the upper end of the vertical member 9 and is used to mount and attach a top plate 4. The fastening releasing member 17 is provided in a manner to operate in the vertical direction with the same width as the vertical width of the hole section 16a in order to release the fastening between the claw piece 12a of the fastening member 12 and the hole section 16a, in the vertical member 9.
