PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing an aldehyde, comprising hydroformylating the corresponding olefin in the presence of a rhodium catalyst. SOLUTION: A method for producing the 3 to 21C aldehyde, comprising hydroformylating the corresponding olefin in the presence of the rhodium catalyst, characterized by (a) separating the extract of a hydroformylation reactor into a gas phase and a liquid phase, (b) separating the liquid phase into an overhead fraction containing an unreacted olefin and the aldehyde and a bottom fraction containing the rhodium catalyst, and (c) cooling the bottom fraction at a lower temperature than the temperature of the extract of the hydroformylation reactor and then applying a carbon monoxide-containing gas to the cooled bottom fraction. By this method, the deactivation of the rhodium catalyst can sufficiently be controlled on the hydroformylation of the olefin. |
