PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for removing NOx from exhaust gases, wherein NOx can be stably decomposed for a long term by using methane as a reducing agent in an oxygen-excess atmosphere and to provide an exhaust gas cleaning catalyst used therefor. SOLUTION: A first exhaust gas cleaning catalyst is prepared by infiltrating palladium and platinum into a metal oxide carrier an adding tungsten to the resulting carrier. A second exhaust gas cleaning catalyst is prepared by infiltrating tungsten into a metal oxide carrier and infiltrating palladium and platinum into the resulting carrier.
