PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device and a method for controlling a resistance force against the movement of a steering shaft moving as a function of an operator input. SOLUTION: A position sensor 16 is connected to the steering shaft 14, and transmits a shaft position signal as the function of a steering shaft position. A processing device 18 is connected to the position sensor 16, receives the shaft position signal, and transmits a resistance force signal as a function of the shaft position signal. A resistance force device 20 is connected to the processing device so as to receive the resistance force signal and also connected to the steering shaft, and resists the movement of the steering shaft as a function of the resistance signal.
