PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce a placement space for a printer as small as possible by obviating the need of a space for adjustment. SOLUTION: This printer 1 comprises a platen 10 and a printer head which is brought into contact with the platen 10 with a recording material guide path therebetween and a discharge hole 3 for discharging the printed recording material is formed at the front face of the printer 1. A contact force adjusting mechanism 26 for adjusting a contact force of the printer head to the platen 10 is provided to the printer 1 and a switching lever 28 for driving the contact force adjusting mechanism 26 is provided to the front face of a body housing 2. As a result of the above structure, it is possible to adjust the contact force of the printer head to the platen 10 can be adjusted by the operation from the front face side.
