PURPOSE: A device and method for detecting abnormal operation of an air cleaner are provided to let a control part directly detect abnormal output voltage generated in a high-voltage generator in the air cleaner. CONSTITUTION: A device comprises a voltage detective part(11); a control part(12); a signal voltage output part(13); and a display part(14). The voltage detective part detects voltage output generated in a high-pressure generator driven as an air cleaner is operated. The control part determines voltage detected in the voltage detective part and detects condition of the high-pressure generator thereby to control driving of the air cleaner. The signal voltage output part outputs signal voltage of the high-pressure generator by determination of the control part about operation of the high-pressure generator. The display part displays driving condition of the air cleaner and abnormal condition of the high-pressure generator.
