PICTURE DISPLAY DEVICE AND DRIVING METHOD FOR THE SAME

PURPOSE: To reduce power consumption in a picture display device in which brightness modulation elements are arranged in a matrix shape. CONSTITUTION: This device is a picture display device which has a plurality of brightness modulation elements, each of whose brightness is modulated by being applied with the voltage of positive polarity and whose brightness is not modulated by being applied with the voltage of negative polarity, a plurality of first wirings which are connected electrically to first electrodes of the brightness modulation elements and a plurality of second wirings which are connected electrically to second electrodes of the brightness modulation elements and also which cross the first wirings at right angles and a first driving means which is connected to the first wirings and outputs scan pulses to the wirings and a second driving means which is connected to the second wirings and the first driving means sets the first wirings of non-selection states to be in higher impedance states than the first wirings of a selection state.
