PURPOSE: A method for extracting a cell header boundary in an ATM(Asynchronous Transfer Mode) is provided to execute CRC(Cyclic Redundancy Check) calculation until a cell boundary is extracted bit by bit, without the necessity of resetting a CRC value for a 5-byte header. CONSTITUTION: In case that data #39 through #0 are stored in a shift register, it is confirmed that the syndrome is '0'. In case that the syndrome value is not '0', CRC calculation is made again after 1 bit is shifted. If the 39th register value of the shift register is '1', XOR operation is executed for the syndrome with '00110001'. In case that the 39th register value of the shift register is '0', the syndrome is left as it is. New input is shifted to the syndrome value obtained from XOR operation, and CRC calculation is executed again to check a CRC value for each bit.
