PURPOSE: A method for driving a plasma display panel of a high efficiency circuit type is provided to prevent a damage of the plasma display panel due to heat and reduce the power consumption by changing a driving method of an existing circuit. CONSTITUTION: A plurality of electrode groups are formed with X-electrodes and Y-electrodes formed on one side of a front substrate. A plurality of address electrodes are formed on one side of a rear substrate. A multitude of discharge cells are formed on intersection points between the electrode groups of the front substrate and the address electrodes. Neighboring cells are separated by barrier ribs. A fluorescent layer is formed between the barrier ribs. A shelf voltage is overlapped on the sustain voltage in a sustain/discharge process and the overlapped shelf voltage is applied to an X-electrode. The shelf voltage is overlapped on the sustain voltage in the sustain/discharge process and the overlapped shelf voltage is applied to a Y-electrode. |
